Minister of State for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed that the long-awaited forensic audit into the National Cathedral project has been completed and submitted to the Attorney-General for review.
According to him, the Attorney-General received the report last Friday and is currently examining its findings to determine the appropriate next steps.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the forensic audit was commissioned after an earlier audit by Deloitte and Touche identified financial irregularities but did not fully establish the extent of the issues or determine who was responsible.
He said the forensic exercise was therefore undertaken to identify those responsible for the alleged irregularities and establish whether the transactions were lawful.
The audit was authorised by the Attorney-General and conducted by the Auditor-General.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said he had not personally seen the report and would not comment on its specific findings until the appropriate time.
He stressed that the initial audit had established concerns requiring further investigation, while the forensic audit was intended to provide greater clarity on the transactions and those responsible.
He also maintained that no individual would be protected if the report establishes wrongdoing.
According to him, the Attorney-General will determine the appropriate legal action based on the findings of the forensic audit.
The Minister said the report is ultimately expected to provide clarity on expenditure related to the National Cathedral project and strengthen accountability for public funds used in its development.
