The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has come under scrutiny for its partnership with KGL Technology Limited, but the organization’s Head of Corporate Communications, Chris Bilami, is adamant that the deal is vital to its success. In a recent interview, Bilami highlighted the significant impact the partnership has had on NLA’s operations and financial stability.
“The contract with KGL is the backbone of our operations,” Bilami stated. “Without it, we would struggle to meet our financial obligations, including paying winners and staff salaries.” He emphasized that 80% of NLA’s revenue is directly attributable to the partnership, a fact that can be verified by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Bilami’s comments come amid growing calls from some quarters for the contract to be reviewed or scrapped. However, he believes these calls are misinformed and driven by self-interest. “The contract is delivering results, and there’s no need to cancel it,” he said. “As long as KGL operates legitimately and contributes to Ghana’s economy, it deserves support.”
The NLA has recently inaugurated a new Governing Board, which will provide strategic direction and oversight for the organization. The board is tasked with ensuring the NLA’s continued growth and compliance with its statutory obligations.
New Governing Board Members:
- Mr. Frederick Amissah (Chairman)
- Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam (Director General, NLA)
- Mr. Edward Abrokwah (Director, Revenue Policy Division, Ministry of Finance)
- Ms. Doreen Panyin Annan (Representative, Ministry of Interior)
- Mrs. Helen Akpene Awo Ziwu (Solicitor-General and Representative, Office of the Attorney General)
- Hon. Faustina Elikplim Akurugu (Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya)
- Mr. Gerald Baffour Awuah Bonsu (President’s Nominee)
The board’s inauguration marks a new chapter for the NLA, and Bilami’s defense of the KGL partnership underscores the organization’s commitment to its mission.
