The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, has credited the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with spearheading Ghana’s most transformative initiatives across key sectors, while questioning the developmental impact of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM show on April 7, Mr. Aboagye began with healthcare, asserting that the foundation of Ghana’s health system, including the National Health Insurance Scheme, was established under the NPP. He also highlighted reforms in education, recalling former President John Kufuor’s administration, which tackled poverty-related school dropouts by implementing the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) policy.
“Even after removing school fees, many children could not attend because families couldn’t afford food. The NPP addressed this by expanding school feeding programs at the basic level, and secondary education was also made free,” he explained.
Mr. Aboagye also cited social intervention programs like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative, which provides quarterly and monthly stipends to extremely poor Ghanaians, as another example of the party’s impact.
On the NPP’s internal reorganisation, he emphasized that the party is evolving based on past lessons, current experiences, and future aspirations. “The aspirations and ideas of the people will inform and shape what we become. That is what we are working towards,” he said, describing the NPP as a credible alternative to Ghana’s current challenges.
Critiquing the ruling NDC, Mr. Aboagye questioned the tangible impact of its policies, challenging supporters to name any sector where the government has delivered life-changing results.
He also highlighted improvements in emergency services and post-COVID healthcare interventions: “When the NPP came into office in 2017, our emergency system was broken. Today, thanks to the ambulances introduced by the NPP, it is highly elevated. Additionally, district hospitals now have facilities in about 88 previously underserved districts.”
Concluding, Mr. Aboagye stressed that while all governments face challenges, the NPP has consistently delivered “lasting, life-changing solutions” for Ghanaians. “Every monumental agenda this country has pursued is by the NPP, and that is what we are presenting to the people,” he said.
