The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a public apology to Ghanaians for its shortcomings during its tenure in government. According to Justin Frimpong Kodua, the party’s General Secretary, the NPP acknowledges its mistakes and takes full responsibility for them.
“We did our best, but we couldn’t have gotten everything right,” Kodua said in an interview on Channel One TV. “And I have always said that on behalf of our then government, our political party, certain things that we could not do right, we apologise for it.”
The NPP was voted out of power in the 2024 general elections after serving two terms. Kodua emphasized that the party has used this period to reflect on its governance record and prepare for a more effective return.
“We are always ready to learn and make sure that when we come back to power, the good things that we did, we will build on. And those mistakes that we made — we will not repeat those mistakes,” he pledged.
The party’s apology comes as part of its efforts to rebuild trust with the electorate. Kodua’s remarks signal a strategic shift by the party, acknowledging past failures and committing to reform.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, has also apologized to Ghanaians for the party’s mistakes. “We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf, on behalf of the party and the government, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the things right that we should have gotten,” he said.
The NPP’s apology and pledge to reform have sparked hopes for a more accountable and responsive government in the future.
