The Ghana Police Service has arrested a pastor in connection with the alleged attempt to bury a five-month-old baby alive at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District.

The suspect, Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, who heads the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, was apprehended following the incident, which has caused widespread shock within the community.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect and an accomplice were seen at a refuse dump at approximately 11 p.m. under suspicious circumstances while in possession of the infant.

An eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, reported that he intervened after observing unusual activity and discovered that the child was still alive and on the verge of being buried. He subsequently raised an alarm, prompting swift intervention that prevented a potentially fatal outcome.

The Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, indicated that the suspect had earlier informed him that the child was deceased, which led to preliminary burial arrangements being discussed. He noted, however, that he was unaware the infant was alive at the time.

The baby girl is currently receiving medical treatment at a government health facility.

Police have confirmed that both the suspect and his alleged accomplice are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
