The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo.
The 46-year-old was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have issued the threat.
According to the Police, Ayitey Powers is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the matter.
The Accra Regional Police Command said the investigation is aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and determining the appropriate action in accordance with the law.
In a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the Police urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified information about the case while investigations are ongoing.
The Command assured the public that the matter is being handled and that any further action will be based on the outcome of the investigations.
