Police at the Ashaiman District Command of the Ghana Police Service in the Greater Accra Region have launched a manhunt for a murder suspect known only as “Afro,” a native of Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.
Afro is being sought in connection with the killing of Atsu Bigah, a mobile money vendor who lived and worked in the Ashaiman-New York area.
The victim was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his rented room after neighbours and relatives became concerned about his absence for several days.
According to family sources, the deceased and the suspect spent the night together in the room before the incident. The sources said that on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the two were seen pounding and eating fufu together.
They reportedly went out afterwards and later returned home that evening to sleep. When the deceased was not seen for two days, some tenants assumed he had gone to work and would return later.
However, repeated calls to his phone went unanswered, and his room remained locked. Concerned tenants, together with a family member and other residents, eventually forced the door open.Mr. Bigah was found dead in a pool of blood with multiple wounds. Family sources alleged that a portion of his body had been removed.Police later conveyed the body to the mortuary at the Police Hospital for preservation and further examination.
Investigators believe the suspect fled the area after the incident and are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station. The murder has shocked residents of Ashaiman-New York, with many calling for swift justice.
