The Chief Warrior (Asafoatse) of the Ga State, Captain Nii Kojo Nseni Mankattah IV, has cautioned the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, against claims that he has been destooled.
He stated that the Ga Mantse does not have the authority to install or destool him, as he was installed by the principal elders of the Ayikwei Tsekpɔno/Captain Nsieni Mankattah family of Abola in Ga Mashie.
Captain Mankattah IV said his installation took place on October 23, 2016, before the enstoolment of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II in 2020.
He explained that although he was later officially ushered into the Nii Mankattah We Stool Room, the Ga Mantse was not involved in his original installation.
“I was installed long before King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was enstooled. He did not install me,” he said.
He added that earlier delays in his formal recognition were due to disputes at the time of his installation.
Captain Mankattah IV also rejected claims that he had been replaced, describing the alleged installation of a new Asafoatse as unlawful.
He stressed that he would soon mark 10 years in office and questioned the basis for any attempt to remove him.He further emphasised that the Asafoatse Mankattah stool was rooted in a long-standing military tradition within Ga Mashie, with historical significance dating back to Captain Nii Kojo Nseni Mankattah I, who led Ga-Dangme warriors during the 1874 Anlo War.
He said the Mankattah family continues to play a key role in Ga traditional military affairs, with the Asafoatse serving as leader of all Asafoatsemei (warrior groups) in Ga Mashie.
