A Kumasi High Court has handed down a life sentence to Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, alias “Taacum,” after a jury convicted him of murdering his romantic partner.
The seven-member jury delivered a 5-2 majority verdict, finding him guilty of fatally shooting Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa.
The incident occurred on April 20, 2023, near Dapaah’s residence in Adum, Kumasi. Twumasi initially admitted to the shooting but claimed it was accidental. He later changed his plea to not guilty, prompting a trial. After almost three years of court proceedings, Justice Rosemond Baah-Tusu delivered the final verdict on April 24, 2025.
Investigations revealed that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a GH¢5,000 debt. Twumasi had demanded repayment, and when Dapaah failed to settle, he allegedly pulled the trigger, resulting in her tragic death. The case sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns about gun violence within the security services.
