The Ghana Police Service has arrested the main suspect in the Sakumono double murder after days on the run.

The suspect, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, was picked up from his hideout, the Police announced in a post on X on Sunday, November 1, 2026. “The key suspect in the Sakumono murder case, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, who was on the run, has been arrested from his hideout.

Full details will be communicated,” the Police said. His arrest comes after the earlier arrest of 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni, who is accused of leading him to the victims’ home. The victims, 57-year-old George Atubiga and his 47-year-old niece Irene Atubiga, were killed at their residence at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Preliminary investigations suggest the killings were linked to a GH¢500,000 debt. Police say George Atubiga had allegedly borrowed the amount from Christopher and failed to pay back.

Investigators said Christopher went to the house that morning with Mumuni to demand the money.

An argument broke out, during which he allegedly shot and killed the two. The victims were rushed to hospital but were pronounced dead. Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. With Christopher’s arrest, both key suspects are now in custody as investigations continue.
