Police in Mampongteng in the Ashanti Region have launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a final-year student of Amaniampong Senior High School by his housemaster.
The victim, Emmanuel Kwarteng, was reportedly beaten after refusing to attend a compulsory all-night church service on campus. His family has confirmed police involvement, stating that he sustained serious injuries requiring medical treatment.
The case is currently under investigation, pending the submission of a medical report from attending doctors.
According to accounts, the incident occurred when the housemaster, identified as Gyamfi Charles of Asenso House, confronted the student in his dormitory. A disagreement ensued over Emmanuel’s refusal to participate in the religious activity, after which the teacher allegedly assaulted him.
Images and videos circulating online appear to show the student on the ground while being physically attacked, with visible injuries, particularly to his eye.
Emmanuel’s mother, Vida Kwarteng, expressed concern over her son’s condition, stressing that no student should be subjected to such treatment under any circumstances.
His father, Tony Kofi Kwateng, confirmed that the matter has been formally reported to the police, adding that a medical report has been generated and will be submitted as part of the investigation process.
The student is currently receiving treatment at the Ejisu Government Hospital.
School authorities have forwarded a detailed report, including recommendations for possible sanctions against the teacher, to the Municipal Ghana Education Service (GES). The Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration at the school, Prempeh William Osei, indicated that the institution is cooperating with the relevant authorities and prioritising the student’s recovery.
He noted that the matter has been escalated through the appropriate GES channels, including the municipal and regional levels, and assured that the school is providing support to the victim.
Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive public statement as investigations continue.
