Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has emerged with a commanding lead over former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a simulated 2028 presidential race, according to a new Global Info Analytics poll released on Tuesday.
The March 2026 tracking survey places Dr Forson at 55% support in a multi-candidate contest, compared to Dr Bawumia’s 37%, representing an 18-point margin. This gap exceeds both the margin recorded in the 2024 general election and the projected performance of fellow National Democratic Congress (NDC) contender, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Lead pollster Mussa Dankwah indicated that the findings underscore the NDC’s sustained strength among its core supporters. He further noted that evolving voter dynamics—particularly among individuals who abstained from voting in 2024—could compound challenges for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a separate simulation, Mr Asiedu Nketia also leads Dr Bawumia, securing 51% against 39%, a 12-point advantage. While significant, this margin remains narrower than Dr Forson’s lead in the same survey.
The results suggest that both leading NDC figures currently maintain comfortable leads over the NPP’s likely candidate at this stage of the electoral cycle.
For context, President John Mahama defeated Dr Bawumia in the December 2024 election by 15 percentage points, obtaining 56% of the vote against 41%. The latest projections indicate that Dr Forson would surpass that margin if elections were held under current conditions, while Mr Asiedu Nketia would perform slightly below it.
Other candidates from the 2024 race recorded marginal support in the simulation. Alan Kyeremanten, who contested as an independent under the Movement for Change, secured between 3% and 4%, while businessman Nana Kwame Bediako polled between 2% and 3%.
The survey forms part of Global Info Analytics’ ongoing national tracking polls, which continue to position Dr Forson and Mr Asiedu Nketia as leading contenders within the NDC. The party, however, is yet to officially open nominations for its 2028 presidential primaries.
Dr Bawumia, who led the NPP into the 2024 elections, is widely expected to emerge again as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 contest.
