The Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of 26-year-old Austin Tengeeh, a Liberian national, following an incident at an apartment complex in Lashibi near Sakumono on 27 February 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate that Tengeeh had visited his brother at the residence with his girlfriend when he was allegedly attacked by some residents and members of the public. The apartment’s caretaker reportedly raised an alarm accusing him of theft, triggering the assault.
A police patrol team responded to a distress call, rescued the victim and rushed him to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency treatment. He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff.
His body has been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home pending preservation and autopsy.
Police have arrested three suspects — Vincent Adzikah (38), Francis Amuzu (44), and William Addison (34) — who are currently in custody assisting with investigations. A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, is on the run, with police intensifying efforts to apprehend him.
The suspects are expected to appear before court on 2 March 2026.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that mob justice and unlawful assault are criminal offences that undermine due process. Residents have been urged to report suspected criminal activity to the police and allow lawful procedures to prevail.
