The recent poll on Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo’s, removal won’t prejudice the legal process, according to the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah.
He said the judicial decisions should be independent of public sentiment.
“That is why it is a legal process. You know in law, public opinion should not matter, and if those who are tasked with the decision follow public opinion, then they are doing a disservice to this country,” Mr. Dankwah stated on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, which was monitored by Ghanaianradaronline.
He cautioned against overextending the findings of polls beyond their intended scope. “Public opinion is public opinion, and opinion poll companies are circumspect in what they do, but their work should not be taken extremely beyond the little boundaries,” Dankwah remarked.
The poll, conducted between April 7 and 16, 2025, sampled 2,545 voters across Ghana’s 16 regions. The results showed that 52% of respondents favor the Chief Justice’s removal, while 20% oppose it. Meanwhile, 18% remain neutral, and 10% are undecided.
When asked if evidence of legal misconduct would influence their stance, 30% of those initially neutral or opposed said they would support her removal, though 35% would still resist the move. Dankwah’s comments come amid national debate over the poll’s findings and the Chief Justice’s fate.
