The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a nationwide alert over impending thunderstorms and possible flooding in several regions.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 30, the Agency indicated that two separate storm systems developing along the borders of Togo and Benin are expected to merge and move into Ghana.
GMet explained that the combined system, together with locally generated rain-bearing clouds, is likely to trigger rainfall and thunderstorms of varying intensity from the afternoon through to the night.
The coastal, middle, transition and parts of the northern sectors are expected to be affected.
The Agency cautioned that low-lying areas remain at risk of flooding, with strong winds also anticipated to accompany the storms.
Forecast projections show that between 1600 UTC and 2000 UTC, areas such as Ho, Jasikan, Kpandai, Dambai, Salaga, Tamale, Kumasi, Obuasi and Nkawkaw are likely to experience rainfall.
From 1900 UTC to 0100 UTC, the storm is expected to extend to coastal areas, including Accra, Prampram, Ashaiman, Aflao and Aburi.
Later, between 2100 UTC and 0300 UTC, the rains are projected to affect parts of the Western and Central belts, including Sunyani, Winneba, Cape Coast, Tarkwa and Axim.
GMet is urging the public—particularly residents in flood-prone communities—to take precautionary measures as the weather system advances across the country.
