Register In 19 Days Or Face Sanctions – Sam George Warns Courier Operators

Courier companies and delivery riders across Ghana have been given 19 days to register on a new government digital platform or face sanctions, as authorities move to tighten regulation of the rapidly growing logistics sector.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced the deadline on Thursday when he launched the Integrated Courier and Logistics Management System Ghana (iCOLMS GH) in Cantonments.

The new platform is intended to regulate courier and delivery services while improving safety and trust in the country’s fast growing e commerce industry.

According to the minister, all courier companies and individual riders must register on the platform by March 31, 2026. After the deadline, a nationwide enforcement exercise will begin on April 1, involving the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission and the Ghana Police Service.

“The system is live, the process is digital and there shall be enforcement,” the minister warned, stressing that operators who fail to comply will face regulatory sanctions.

Mr George said the platform was introduced partly in response to the chaotic enforcement exercise in August 2025, when hundreds of motorbikes used by delivery riders were seized during a joint operation by regulators and the police.

Government later halted the crackdown and promised to introduce a simpler digital system that would allow operators to regularise their activities without disrupting their livelihoods.

He said the courier and logistics sector had become a key pillar of Ghana’s digital economy, linking businesses and customers across the country. However, the rapid expansion of delivery services has also led to the rise of unregistered operators, which authorities say threatens legitimate businesses and weakens consumer confidence.

The iCOLMS GH platform introduces a fully digital and paperless licensing system, allowing courier companies and riders to apply for licences, renew them and verify their status online.

The system will also be integrated with national digital platforms including Ghana.GOV and the National Identification Authority. Future integration is planned with the Ghana Police Service Traffitech GH platform to improve monitoring and compliance.

Mr George said the platform would allow members of the public to confirm the legitimacy of courier companies and riders before handing over parcels or other valuables.

“For the consumer, security is the currency of e commerce. Through the iCOLMS GH portal, every member of the public can verify the regulatory status of a courier company or rider before entrusting them with an item of value,” he said.

He urged operators to see certification on the platform as a sign of professionalism and accountability within the industry.

Courier companies and riders have been advised to register through the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission website at www.pcsrc.gov.gh, dial *928*007#, or send “Hi” to the WhatsApp line 0596111611 for guidance on completing the registration process before the March 31 deadline.
