The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPWP) have cited a shortage of raw materials, particularly polymers, due to global supply chain disruptions and Middle East tensions, driving up sachet water prices by GH¢15 per bag.
The Vice President of (NASPWP), Kwame Richard, explained that production costs have surged, forcing producers to adjust prices.
“Scarcity is a challenge now. The little that we are getting has seen prices increase by about 40%. We therefore have no choice but to appeal to consumers to accept a slight price increase so we can continue producing safe, quality water for Ghanaians,” he said.
A bag of sachet water will cost GH¢10 at the factory and GH¢15 for retailers, effective April 6. Mr. Kwame warns against unauthorized price hikes and advises consumers to check for FDA approval. “Very soon, we will address bottled water as well… the bottle that we use to package the bottled water is also from the same polymer that the sachet is made of,” he added
