Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has called for the disbandment of the Black Stars and the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association following Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars surrendered a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday. Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan put Ghana ahead before The Gambia fought back to secure victory.
The result followed Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in their opening Group C match, leaving the team with a difficult path to qualification.
Reacting to questions on X, Mr George, who also represents Ningo-Prampram in Parliament, demanded sweeping changes to the national team and football administration.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he wrote.
Ghana is seeking to return to the continental tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will jointly host the 2027 competition.
The Black Stars will resume their qualifying campaign in October with a double-header against Somalia.
