‘Telcos Cover SIM Re-registration Costs’

Lamtiig A. Apanga, Acting Deputy CEO, Gaming Commission of Ghana

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsAppp

The Gaming Commission’s Acting Deputy CEO, Lamtiig A. Apanga, has allayed fears that the upcoming SIM card registration will burden Ghanaians financially. Speaking on Channel One TV on March 21, which was monitored by Ghanaianradar, Mr Apanga clarified that the GH₵5 registration fee per SIM card will be absorbed by telecom companies, shielding consumers from direct charges.
Mr Apanga’s comments come amid public concerns over the cost of the exercise, especially following the previous nationwide SIM registration. Meanwhile, former Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has denied claims of disagreements with Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, former NIA Executive Secretary, which President John Mahama alleged affected the 2022-2023 SIM card registration process.
