The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Armah Kofi Buah, has stated that the future of mining in Ghana lies in the northern part of the country, describing it as a major opportunity for development in the area.
He made this statement during a tour of mining sites in the Upper East Region.
The northern part of Ghana has seen increasing discoveries of mineral deposits across several locations, positioning the area as a key hub for future mining activities.
In the Upper East Region, about 10 out of the 15 districts have identified gold deposits, highlighting the region’s significant mineral potential.
Other regions across the country have also recorded discoveries of gold and various minerals within their districts and municipalities.
During his visit to mining companies operating in the Upper East Region, the Minister noted that current trends clearly indicate that mining activities in Ghana are gradually shifting toward the northern sector.
As part of his tour, the Minister paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Tongo Traditional Area.
During the engagement, the Chief raised concerns regarding the implementation of social responsibility agreements between the traditional authority and the two mining companies operating within the area.
