The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has issued a stern warning to politicians, stating that if they fail to take decisive action against illegal mining (galamsey), they will face the consequences at the ballot box.
The President of the GMA, Dr. Frank Serebour, emphasised that the Association’s fight against galamsey was driven by the need to protect public health and reduce preventable diseases.
He noted that while strike actions have been suggested, they were not a sustainable solution. Instead, the GMA will intensify advocacy and public mobilization to demand concrete action from political leaders. “If you don’t fight it, we’ll boot you out,” he warned, emphasizing that politicians fear electoral loss more than anything else.
The GMA will continue to push for reforms and issue ultimatums, but Dr. Serebour stressed that long-term change requires sustained pressure and advocacy. “We will continue to talk and advocate,” he said, urging Ghanaians to hold politicians accountable for their actions on galamsey.
