The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has urged the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the alleged takeover of land at the Accra CMB Abuja Market by private developers.
This call comes after traders and transport unions protested the encroachment, claiming it has displaced many vendors and exacerbated traffic congestion in the area.
The traders have accused private developers of illegally occupying land belonging to the Ghana Railway Development Authority.
She condemned the takeover, emphasising that the land is state-owned and should not be seized by private individuals without clear authorization.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings has also called on the Minister of Transport to clarify the ownership of the land and outline government plans for the site. She stressed the need for immediate action to restore calm at the business hub, which is home to a significant portion of Ghana’s informal sector.
The MP’s plea for an EOCO investigation aims to address the growing instability caused by the alleged land grab and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. By investigating the matter, EOCO can help determine the legitimacy of the land claims and prevent further disputes.
