The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
According to the Council, the results will be sent to schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates may also check their results online through WAEC’s official results portal.
A total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for this year’s examination, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females. The candidates included 136 persons with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs and 510 others who required additional examination accommodations.
The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide. WAEC disclosed that 3,601 registered candidates were absent during the examination.
Following investigations into reported examination irregularities, the Council announced sanctions against candidates found to have breached its regulations. The Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates, while the entire results of 105 candidates were cancelled.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further action.
WAEC also withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools for further investigation. The Council stated that the affected results could either be released or cancelled after the investigations are completed by August 31, 2026.
Affected candidates have been directed to visit the WAEC irregularities portal at https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the “withheld” or “cancelled” option on the homepage to view the reasons for the action taken and any further instructions. Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their result-listing login credentials to verify the status of affected candidates.
The Council further warned the public to disregard individuals who claim they can alter examination results in exchange for money, stressing that its results are secure and can be independently authenticated.
WAEC expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their contributions to the successful conduct of the examination and the timely release of the provisional results.
