The spouse of former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) boss, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has filed a lawsuit asking the court to reveal where he is and order his release.
He was picked up by armed operatives at Kotoka International Airport on July 4, 2026, just as he was about to travel for medical treatment approved by the court. Hajia Faiza Seidu Wuni submitted an urgent habeas corpus petition at the High Court’s Specialised Court in Accra on July 6. She wants the Director of the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) and the Attorney-General compelled to bring her husband to court and justify why he is still being held.In her sworn affidavit, Wuni said
Abdul-Wahab is facing trial for theft and causing financial loss to the state. On June 29, the High Court had granted him permission to go to London for treatment of a deteriorating eye condition. The order stated he must depart on or before July 4 and come back by July 14. According to the affidavit, Abdul-Wahab went through all normal departure procedures at the airport, including clearance from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
He was then approached by armed men who identified themselves as BNI officers and arrested him without any reason given. The wife claims he was not allowed to contact his lawyer during the arrest. The family spent hours calling security agencies, all of which denied holding him. They were only informed the following day that he was being kept at the BNI offices in Ridge, Accra.
She further stated that when she attempted to take food to him at the BNI headquarters, she was refused entry and told visits were not allowed on weekends. Lawyers who went to see him were also blocked, with officers saying they lacked authorisation. The arrest prompted a public reaction from Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, who posted on Facebook that night that Abdul-Wahab was arrested after trying to withdraw money from a frozen bank account through unlawful means.
He specifically alleged an attempt to drain a Republic Bank account two days before the arrest. Dr Srem-Sai also said the Attorney-General’s office planned to contest the court order that allowed Abdul-Wahab’s trip. In her affidavit, Abdul-Wahab’s wife rejected the claim, saying her husband denies it completely and calling it unfounded, while urging the state to present evidence. Her application contends that the arrest and continued detention breach her husband’s constitutional rights, including the right to liberty and to legal counsel.
She is asking the court to produce him so the legality of his detention can be examined. The BNI and the Attorney-General’s office have not responded publicly to the habeas corpus application. The case is now pending before the High Court in Accra.
