An unidentified woman has been killed after being struck by a passenger train on the Tema-Afienya railway line at Mataheko-Sebrepo, prompting residents to renew calls for the construction of a footbridge to improve pedestrian safety.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, leaving residents at the scene waiting for the police to arrive.
Witnesses said they heard the train sound its horn shortly before the collision, followed by an unusual noise that alerted people to what had happened.
The impact reportedly left the woman’s body severely mutilated, with her head thrown into a nearby gutter. Residents and other bystanders subsequently searched the area for it.
Residents renew calls for footbridge
The incident has reignited concerns among residents about the dangers pedestrians face when crossing the railway line and the need for a dedicated crossing to connect communities in the area.
Residents are urging the relevant authorities to construct a footbridge to provide a safer route across the railway and reduce the risk of similar tragedies.
They believe the facility would improve pedestrian safety and help prevent further loss of life along the railway corridor.
