More than 100 polling station executives, electoral area officers, and constituency functionaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Yendi Constituency have petitioned the party’s General Secretary, demanding an immediate audit of forms submitted as part of an ongoing internal party exercise.
The petitioners alleged that forms initially completed to declare some executives winners unopposed are different from the documents currently being used in the final summary submitted to the Regional Representative.
According to the aggrieved members, no elections were conducted in several polling stations and electoral areas because the affected executives had been endorsed to serve unopposed.
They explained that the required forms were duly completed and submitted for their names to be captured in the official summary sheets for confirmation as winners. However, they claimed the information contained in the final summary does not reflect the original submissions made by the Electoral Area Committees.
In the petition addressed to the General Secretary in Accra, the group expressed what they described as “deep concern and dissatisfaction” over the alleged removal and replacement of names, including those of sitting polling station executives, without consultation or due process.
The petitioners maintained that the party had instructed Electoral Area Committees to submit agreed names based on established guidelines and consensus reached among stakeholders.
According to them, coordinators and affected individuals later discovered discrepancies between the original forms submitted and the summary documents currently being relied upon.
They described the situation as arbitrary, unfair, and lacking consultation, warning that the development could erode confidence in the process and create disaffection among grassroots members of the party in the constituency.
The group is therefore calling on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to conduct a full audit of all forms originally submitted by the Electoral Area Committees.
They also demanded the restoration of all names initially forwarded by the committees, immediate measures to ensure transparency and fairness in the process, and steps to enable the committees to function effectively.
Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the Northern Regional leadership of the New Patriotic Party as well as constituency executives for their attention and action.
