The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, has called for increased investment in Ghana’s agricultural sector, citing its vital role in the country’s economy and citizens’ livelihoods.
Dr. Kwainoe commended government initiatives like Farmer Service Centres, farmer retooling, and the Big Push programme, but stressed that more is needed to unlock the sector’s full potential.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, which was monitored by Ghanaian RADAR, Dr. Kwainoe stated that agriculture was crucial for job creation, especially for youth, and socio-economic development in constituencies like Ekumfi. “The government’s decisions in the agricultural sector give me comfort,” he said. “I believe more investment is needed because agriculture significantly impacts our inflation, exchange rate, and producer prices. For me, the agricultural sector is key.”
