Twenty-two members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) are set to embark on an eight-day humanitarian mission to Ghana from November 10 to 18, 2026, to support underprivileged children and vulnerable communities.
Organised by the African Law Enforcement Organization (ALEO), the initiative, themed “To Serve and to Protect Beyond Borders,” seeks to provide meaningful assistance and bring hope to selected communities across the country.
The mission will combine humanitarian outreach with engagements aimed at strengthening ties between law enforcement professionals in the United States and Ghana.
Mission rooted in service
ALEO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit fraternal organisation comprising active and retired law enforcement and security professionals. Based in Jamaica, New York, the organisation is led by its president, Detective Chibuzo C. Amadi.
Its members share a commitment to public service and community development, with the Ghana mission representing an extension of those values beyond their professional duties and the borders of New York City.
The initiative reflects the organisation’s belief that the principles of protection, unity and community responsibility can be applied wherever people need support.
Officers to engage Ghanaian authorities
Beyond the humanitarian activities, the delegation is scheduled to engage Ghanaian officials as part of efforts to promote professional exchange and international cooperation.
The officers are expected to visit the Ghana Police Service Headquarters on November 10, the day they arrive in the country. The delegation will also pay a courtesy call at Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s Presidency.
These engagements are intended to foster goodwill and strengthen relationships between law enforcement professionals from both countries.
Magho Foundation facilitates community outreach
The mission was made possible in part through the efforts of ALEO member and NYPD officer William Apau, popularly known as Ministerapau, who founded the Magho Foundation.
Through his foundation, Apau connected ALEO with schools and an orphanage in Ghana that the organisation could support, building on the foundation’s previous engagement with the institutions.
ALEO is organising the mission, with the Magho Foundation, Afro Pop and Exotical Sponges supporting the initiative as sponsors.
Bringing hope to vulnerable children
For children facing difficult circumstances, humanitarian assistance can offer more than material support. Such interventions can provide encouragement, strengthen their sense of dignity and reassure them that their welfare matters.
As preparations continue for the November visit, the initiative highlights the potential for international partnerships to support vulnerable communities and promote a shared commitment to humanity.
Through the mission, the organisers hope to demonstrate that service and compassion extend beyond national borders and that acts of kindness can make a lasting difference in people’s lives.
