The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has ordered the immediate cancellation of a planned welcome ceremony organised by staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of his return to the country.

In a social media post on Monday, March 30, the Minister said he had been informed of arrangements for a surprise reception at the airport—an initiative traditionally used by the Ministry to mark major national achievements.

While expressing appreciation for the gesture, Mr Ablakwa said he would have opposed the idea if consulted, stressing that the moment did not warrant personal celebration.

“This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us,” he stated.

He commended staff of the Ministry for their commitment and role in Ghana’s recent diplomatic engagements but urged them to remain focused on advancing the country’s interests internationally.

Mr Ablakwa added that efforts should be aligned with the broader foreign policy direction under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
