Former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has called for swift disciplinary action against officials implicated in the latest audit report irregularities.
Speaking on The Big Issue, a flagship political programme on Citi FM in Accra, On March 14, which was monitored by Ghanaianradar, he emphasised that suspensions should be immediate, even before parliamentary probes. “Suspend or interdict anyone found complicit, investigate, and if cleared, they can return to work,” he said.
The audit report flags issues like 10,000 metric tonnes of missing rice and GH¢8.1bn in rejected claims. GH¢45.4bn of GH¢68.7bn in contractor claims were validated, but GH¢13.3bn is under review due to missing docs. Domelevo notes parliament can’t enforce recommendations; the executive must act. He stressed that administrative sanctions are key to showing accountability. “Administrative sanctions send a strong message: business isn’t usual,” he said. The Attorney-General will handle investigations and prosecutions. Domelevo believes swift action will demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability
