Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has categorically denied allegations that he attempted to reverse the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision on early primaries or postpone the upcoming National Delegates Conference. According to a statement from his office, these claims are “completely false.”
The statement said Akufo-Addo, who is currently out of the jurisdiction, has not made any such requests to the party and has no intention of doing so. It suggested that those behind the allegations have their own agenda, unrelated to the party’s interests.
The NPP is moving forward with its plans, and the upcoming conference on July 19 will focus on key constitutional reforms. These include recommendations from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee report and an outstanding proposal from the 2019 Delegates Conference in Kumasi. The party aims to finalise these reforms, which have been pending since 2019. With Akufo-Addo’s denial, the party’s plans for the conference remain on track.
