Fuel prices have officially gone up in Ghana, effective July 16, 2025, with major oil marketing companies adjusting their prices at the pumps.
GOIL is now selling petrol for GH₵12.88 per liter, up from GH₵12.07, and diesel for GH₵14.38 per liter, up from GH₵13.20. Star Oil’s new prices are GH₵12.59 per liter for petrol, with some stations selling at GH₵11.99, and GH₵13.99 per liter for diesel, with some stations selling at GH₵13.79.
The price hike is attributed to the implementation of a one-cedi fuel levy on diesel and petrol prices starting today. According to Dr. Riverson Oppong, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, prices could have dropped by 2% if the levy hadn’t been introduced.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers is urging the government to reconsider taxes on petroleum products to alleviate consumer burden. Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah believes reviewing taxes could bring relief while the government implements the levy.
Further price adjustments are expected in the coming days, with some oil marketing companies announcing plans to revise their prices later today. This development comes on the heels of predictions from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies that fuel prices would surge by 8-10% in the next pricing window.
