Karaga MP and former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has challenged GoldBod’s reported GH¢5.45 billion surplus for 2025, arguing that the figure does not accurately reflect the organisation’s trading performance.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 1, Dr Amin Adam claimed that GH¢4.54 billion, or 81.7 per cent of the reported surplus, was a government capital injection credited to GoldBod’s accounts on December 30, 2025—just a day before the financial year ended.
He said the amount was recorded as revolving trade capital and should therefore not be treated as revenue.
“It cannot be capital when that is convenient and revenue when there is something to celebrate,” he said.
Dr Amin Adam said the remaining GH¢909.9 million included about GH¢827 million in fees, largely service charges paid by the Bank of Ghana for gold purchasing operations.
He argued that GoldBod’s reported surplus therefore gives a misleading picture of its underlying performance, particularly as the Bank of Ghana reportedly incurred significant losses from the programme.
Dr Amin Adam has called for GoldBod’s 2025 financial statements to be restated to exclude the GH¢4.54 billion capital injection from revenue.
