The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated GH¢50,000 to the St. Jude Catholic Church at Weija to support its operations.
The gesture is part of his ongoing commitment to the church. Dr. Bawumia had earlier supported the construction of the church building, including funding an 8-seater modern washroom fitted with disability-friendly facilities.
He was honoured at a special Holy Mass organized to acknowledge his immense contributions to the church.
At the event, he also commissioned the newly built washroom facility. Dr. Bawumia later visited the Weija Leprosarium, where he interacted with patients, encouraged them, and assured them of his continuous support.
Presenting the GH¢50,000 after the service, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the work of the church.“
Father Campbell is an extraordinary person. He is a true man of God who cares deeply for the poor, the needy, the hungry, lepers, street children and the sick, and these are causes very close to my heart.
So when he told me he was putting up this church, I told him I would help him complete it and provided the needed support. I am so happy to see how beautiful the church is today,” he said.
Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell, lauded Dr. Bawumia for his consistent generosity and compassion for the vulnerable.“
Dr. Bawumia has great empathy for needy and sick people. I have noticed how he relates when he comes here to meet persons affected by leprosy. Today you saw him shaking hands with everybody and hugging them. He helps many people because he truly has love for humanity,” Fr. Campbell noted.
