Former Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged Ghanaians to remain patient, tolerant and submissive to the will of Allah, stressing that power, status and circumstances in life are constantly changing.
Dr Bawumia made the remarks at the 2026 National Maulid, hosted by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at Fadama.
Reflecting on his own political journey and that of President John Dramani Mahama, Dr Bawumia said their changing roles at successive Maulid celebrations demonstrated the sovereignty and absolute power of Allah.
“This gathering itself is a perfect example of the changing nature of life and the absolute power of Allah,” he said.
He recalled attending the National Maulid as a Running Mate, Vice President and now as a Former Vice President, while President Mahama had similarly participated in the event as Vice President, President, Former President and, once again, President.
Dr Bawumia said these transitions were a clear reminder that positions of authority and influence were ultimately determined by Allah.
Quoting Quran 3:26, he said: “Say, O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.”
He urged Ghanaians to remain humble and patient regardless of their circumstances, noting that fortunes could change at any time.
“Today you may be up, tomorrow you may be down. Today you may have, tomorrow you may not,” he said, urging the public to remain steadfast and accept the will of Allah.
Bawumia urges Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad
The former Vice President also called on Muslims, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He encouraged them to promote peace, unity, humility and discipline in their daily lives while maintaining cordial relationships with people of other faiths.
Dr Bawumia said Ghana’s religious diversity should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen national unity and peaceful coexistence.
The National Maulid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), brought together Ulama, Imams, Chiefs, delegations from neighbouring West African countries and a representative of President John Dramani Mahama.
