The Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) has concluded its 33rd Annual Convention in Bethesda, Maryland, described as “A Covenant of Heritage, Healing, and Hope.”
Held from September 3 to 7, 2026 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center and hosted by the Ewe Association of Washington, DC Metro Inc., the convention was themed “Preserving Culture, Inspiring Generations.”
A communiqué issued at the end of the conference said the gathering was “more than an annual meeting. It was a cultural homecoming, a reaffirmation of ancestral bonds, and a collective declaration of duty to Eweland across Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
”On governance and accountability, CEANA stated: “Every project and financial decision will have a clearly assigned owner. Transparent communication and regular reporting will be institutionalised,” adding that “Our leadership is a sacred trust and we shall uphold it with the dignity our ancestors expect.
”On its planned Cancer Research and Treatment Centre with the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, the Council noted that “Every milestone achieved will be communicated to the community, for this project is a covenant of healing.”
On culture, CEANA pledged: “We will wear our heritage with pride and pass it on with devotion.”
A major milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bank of Ghana Hospital on September 7 to mobilize diaspora health professionals.
CEANA thanked the host association, saying “Akpe kakaka,” and stressed: “The commitments made in Bethesda are not symbolic. They are binding promises to our people.”“Together, we are preserving our culture.
Together, we are inspiring generations,” the communiqué concluded, as the Council looks ahead to Boston 2027.
