The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, underscored Ghana’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Switzerland during his participation in the inaugural Ghana–Zurich Business and Cultural Expo in Zurich.
The event, held on March 19, 2026, brought together Ghanaian and Swiss entrepreneurs, investors, industry players, and members of the diplomatic community to explore new avenues for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Organised under the theme, “Bridging Markets, Celebrating Heritage: A New Era of Economic Partnership,” the Expo also served as a platform to showcase Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential through exhibitions and promotional displays.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour and Guest Speaker, Mr Quayson highlighted the longstanding diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and Switzerland, noting that ties between the two countries date back to 1828.
He commended Switzerland for its continued contribution to Ghana’s economic development, particularly in the areas of trade and exports, and stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The Deputy Minister pointed to the government’s economic transformation drive, referencing the Reset Agenda and the proposed 24-hour economy policy as key strategies aimed at boosting productivity and ensuring sustainable growth.
He explained that the policy framework is designed to unlock new economic opportunities, enhance industrialisation, and position Ghana as a competitive investment destination.
Mr Quayson further emphasised the growing importance of cultural diplomacy in advancing economic relations, describing it as a powerful tool for building partnerships and expanding market access.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to shifting Ghana’s economy from reliance on raw commodity exports to value addition, urging investors to channel resources into key sectors.
These include cocoa processing, mineral refining, agro-processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing—areas he said hold significant potential for growth and job creation.
The Deputy Minister also extended an invitation to Swiss businesses and entrepreneurs to take advantage of emerging opportunities under the government’s economic agenda, reaffirming Ghana’s readiness to deepen engagement and build stronger economic partnerships.
