Drama unfolded at the Accra High Court Complex on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when suspected officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to take in the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The MP, who is also lead counsel for detained nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe, had just appeared in court for a bail application hearing in the controversial “Ghana Jollof” TikTok case when the incident occurred.
Videos circulating online, a woman identifying herself as an EOCO officer is seen blocking the MP’s Toyota V8 and asking him to accompany her to the office.
Lawyer Baffour Awuah declined, leading to a heated exchange and a scuffle before an associate pushed the officer aside, allowing the MP to drive off, with the operatives’ vehicle seen pursuing him.
According to sources close to the MP, the move was linked to claims that he had failed to honour EOCO invitations to assist investigations into the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
The sources insist he never received any such invitation, and allege the attempt was meant to silence him over his vocal defence of his client. Lawyer Baffour Awuah has been leading the defence for 40-year-old Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a senior nursing officer and mother of three from Techiman, who was picked up on September 13 and remanded for two weeks by the Adenta Circuit Court 1 over alleged links to the account.
Prosecutors allege Baffoe collaborated with Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, identified as the UK-based operator of the “Ghana Jollof” account wanted for allegedly inciting violence, by recruiting persons to recirculate her videos in exchange for remitted funds.
Baffour Awuah has publicly questioned the basis for Baffoe’s detention, arguing: “Because you want to arrest Ghana Jollof, you have remanded her for two weeks. Meanwhile, you told the court that Ghana Jollof is in the UK”.
The bail hearing on Wednesday was adjourned to Thursday, September 24, after the prosecution requested more time to respond, with the court ordering them to file by 9:00 a.m..
EOCO is yet to publicly comment on the attempted arrest, and it remains unclear whether the operatives were formally acting on the agency’s orders.
