Parliament has approved a substantial budget of GHS31 billion for the Ministry of Education for 2025. This allocation will support several initiatives aimed at enhancing access to education and improving teacher welfare.
The government will waive academic fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions, enhancing access to higher education. Additionally, free tertiary education will be provided for persons with disabilities, reducing the financial burden on families.
The Ministry will also construct 100 accommodation facilities for basic school teachers under the “Teacher Dabrɛ Initiative” to improve teacher welfare.
Parliament also approved a budget allocation of GHS4 billion for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. These funds will support various programs and projects, including allowances for assembly members and traditional authorities. Plans are also underway to establish a National Prayer Day.
