The Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, has criticised the recent locking of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in the constituency by some youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the action as unacceptable.
Speaking on Adom FM on March 18, the MP said he verified the incident after learning about it earlier in the week. He confirmed that the District Director of the NHIA had been transferred, but tensions arose over the appointment of a successor who is neither affiliated with the NDC nor known within the constituency.
According to Mr. Boateng, some aggrieved youth insisted that the new appointee should be someone familiar with the area, a demand he described as misguided and harmful to national unity.
He warned that insisting on locality-based appointments could set a dangerous precedent in the public sector, stressing that such roles are national in scope and should not be determined by political loyalty or place of origin.
The MP urged party supporters to use appropriate channels to express concerns rather than resorting to intimidation or disruptive actions.
Mr. Boateng disclosed that he engaged both the police and local party leadership to help restore calm and also met directly with the youth involved. He confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control.
While acknowledging that the concerns raised may be valid, he maintained that the approach taken was wrong and called for discipline and lawful engagement in resolving such issues.
