EOCO Controversy Has Damaged My Brand – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale says the recent controversy involving the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has affected his reputation and cost him several business opportunities.

Speaking in an interview on the Ekosiisen programme on Asempa FM on Wednesday, the musician said the situation has negatively impacted his brand both in Ghana and internationally.

“I feel sad about it because the system hasn’t really protected me as a citizen,” he said.

According to him, the issue began when EOCO officials visited his residence over claims that the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, had given him vehicles that authorities wanted to investigate.

Shatta Wale explained that when the officers arrived, they did not find any such vehicles at his residence.

“When they came, there were no cars. It was just my Lamborghini,” he said.

The musician insisted that he had no dealings with the former official and questioned why the matter was not handled privately.

He said the way the issue was handled has created the public impression that he knowingly bought a stolen vehicle.

“Everybody thinks I bought a stolen car,” he said, adding that he has been openly driving the car and would not have done so if it had been illegally acquired.

Shatta Wale also revealed that he appealed to the EOCO leadership to handle the matter discreetly to protect his reputation.

He is now calling on the agency’s leadership to apologise for the damage caused to his brand.

“I want to boldly say that the EOCO boss needs to apologise to my brand because they have really tarnished my image in Ghana and even abroad,” he said.

The musician added that hearing suggestions that the vehicle could be linked to proceeds of crime left him deeply disturbed and concerned about his safety.
