Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale says he could consider contesting a parliamentary seat in Ablekuma if residents call on him to serve, but insists he would only run as an independent candidate.
Speaking in an interview on the Ekosiisen programme on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, the musician said he would not enter politics unless there is a clear demand from the people.
“I love Ghana so much. If the people of Ablekuma call me, I will definitely go. But I won’t say because I have money now I’m coming to contest,” he said.
Shatta Wale explained that any decision to pursue political office would be driven by the will of the people rather than personal ambition.
According to him, he prefers to wait until residents show a genuine interest in his leadership before making such a move.
The artiste also revealed that he sometimes reflects on leadership after watching films. He cited the series The Book of Moses as one that recently influenced his thinking.
He said the story of Moses reminded him that leadership often begins when people call someone to serve.
Shatta Wale stressed that even if he enters politics in the future, he would not align himself with any political party.
“I don’t want to belong to any political party. I want to be myself,” he said.
The musician also suggested that Ghana needs to review aspects of its governance framework, including provisions under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
According to him, the country must continue evolving to keep pace with global development.
For now, however, Shatta Wale said he intends to focus on his personal life and music career while leaving the possibility of a future political role open.
