The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has expressed deep concern over the growing disrespect for the Ga people, despite their pivotal role as custodians of Ghana’s capital city.
Speaking at the climax of the 2025 Homowo celebration in Kpone, the Ga Mantse emphasised the need for greater reverence for Ga customs and traditions, particularly within the cosmopolitan setting of the Greater Accra Region.
While reaffirming the commitment of traditional authorities to maintaining peace and harmony in the region, the Ga Mantse stressed that these values are crucial for socio-economic development.
“We won’t banish anyone from Accra because we are welcoming by nature, and the least we expect is to be respected and duly honoured,” he said. “The Greater Accra Region has been successful as the country’s capital because of the loving nature of the Ga people. It should never happen that we are disrespected for hosting the nation’s capital.”
The Ga Mantse further emphasized the importance of preserving and respecting Ga traditions and customs to empower traditional leadership and strengthen cultural identity. He also appealed to corporate bodies operating in Kpone to prioritize the town’s development through meaningful corporate social responsibility initiatives, as the Ga people continue to contribute to peace and development.
