New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has praised former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a loyal, patriotic and humble leader with an unwavering belief in the potential of Ghanaians.
Mr Otchere-Darko said his nearly two-decade association with Dr Bawumia had given him the opportunity to witness his character closely, adding that he had never known him to be involved in any scandal.
In a birthday tribute to Dr Bawumia, who turned 63 on Wednesday, October 7, Mr Otchere-Darko recalled meeting the former Vice-President nearly 20 years ago at his Kanda residence.
“Since you welcomed Ken, Joe and me into your Kanda home nearly 20 years ago, I have come to know a man of remarkable character. I have never seen you angry, heard you insult anyone or known you to be touched by scandal,” he wrote.
He described Dr Bawumia as a person who combines humility with confidence and a strong conviction in what Ghanaians can achieve.
“Loyal, patriotic and humble, you carry a quiet confidence in yourself and a profound belief in what Ghanaians can achieve,” he added.
Praises Leadership Qualities
Mr Otchere-Darko also expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership qualities, particularly his judgement and ability to confront difficult decisions.
“You have the dignity to lead, the temperament to make difficult decisions and the vision to recognise opportunities where others see impossibilities,” he stated.
He further emphasised the need for Ghanaian leadership to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.
“As AI reshapes our world, Ghana needs leadership that understands the future and can help our young people turn anxiety into ambition and ambition into opportunity and prosperity,” he said.
Mr Otchere-Darko ended his tribute with a prayer for the former Vice-President, asking God to grant him good health, strength and wisdom for the journey ahead.
Dr Bawumia is the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election. He served as Vice-President under former President Nana Akufo-Addo from 2017 to 2024.
