The Ghanaian government has secured a €5 million grant from the Italian government to enhance technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country. Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced this development during the inauguration of the Governing Board of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in Accra.
Iddrisu highlighted the significance of the grant, stating, “This support will be instrumental in equipping our youth with industry-relevant skills, promoting entrepreneurship, and alleviating the burden on the public sector.” He emphasized the need to produce entrepreneurs who can create their own jobs, rather than relying solely on public sector employment.
The newly inaugurated board, chaired by Sebastin Fred Deh, comprises 12 members. Deh assured the Minister of the board’s commitment to advancing TVET in Ghana, saying, “We pledge to work tirelessly to champion this sector and ensure its transformative impact on national development.
The grant and the inauguration of the new board mark significant steps towards enhancing Ghana’s TVET sector. With this support, Ghana is poised to produce skilled youths who can contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
