Government to Establish Farm Service Centres to Boost Agricultural Productivity — Dumelo
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsAppp

Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, says the government will soon begin establishing farm service centres across Ghana to improve agricultural productivity and support farmers.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show during a discussion on “Ghana @ 69: Reclaiming Food Security,” Mr Dumelo said the first phase of the project will start in the Afram Plains.

According to him, John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod for the construction of the initial centres in the coming weeks.

Mr Dumelo revealed that about 11 or 12 farm service centres are expected to begin construction this year.

He explained that the government plans to build a nationwide network of such centres within its four-year term.

The centres will provide farmers with access to mechanisation services, fertiliser, improved seeds and other agricultural inputs. They will also offer technical assistance to help farmers improve productivity.

Mr Dumelo said the facilities will serve as support hubs where farmers can access key services needed to strengthen the agricultural sector.

He also dismissed claims that the government has not taken steps to establish farm service centres, insisting that the initiative is already underway.

The centres form part of the government’s broader strategy to increase food production, strengthen agricultural value chains and improve food security in Ghana.
