The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has arranged 120 employment slots for Ghanaians brought back from South Africa (SA) amid persistent xenophobic unrest there.
The Ministry noted that the openings were created by Ghanaian business leaders to help returning citizens resettle. In a public notice released on Monday, June 1, the Ministry urged more Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs to support the drive by providing work opportunities for the returnees.
“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.
The Ministry revealed that the Delivery Unit, led by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, is managing the programme and can be reached via a dedicated line for interested employers.
“So far, we have secured 120 job opportunities from patriotic Ghanaian business owners. Be part of this noble project,” the Ministry added.
The effort is part of state measures to assist Ghanaians hit by the recent surge of anti-foreigner hostility and assaults in South Africa, which triggered evacuations of citizens seeking to come home.
To date, 300 people have been evacuated from South Africa. The Ministry restated its pledge to the well-being of Ghanaians overseas, emphasising that all steps were being taken to guarantee the safety, dignity and smooth resettlement of every returnee. “We value and cherish all our citizens,” the statement noted.
