The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has told Parliament that the government is prepared to facilitate overseas medical treatment for Sandra Baafi Boateng, a victim of the stampede that occurred during a military recruitment exercise, if specialists recommend it.
Addressing Parliament on Monday, March 9, the minister provided an update on the condition of Ms Baafi Boateng, who sustained severe injuries during the recruitment exercise organised by the Ghana Armed Forces.
Mr Akandoh said the Ministry of Health has been working closely with doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that the victim receives the necessary specialist care.
“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Ms Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the requisite specialist care and that every necessary step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” he told the House.
According to the minister, Ms Baafi Boateng sustained serious injuries during the recruitment exercise held on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
She initially received inpatient care under specialist supervision, with the government covering all medical expenses to ease the financial burden on her and her family.
Mr Akandoh further disclosed that on February 26, 2026, she was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for further treatment.
He explained that she is currently receiving care from a specialist-led multidisciplinary team, with her treatment plan also including rehabilitation and social support to aid her recovery.
The minister stressed that the government is exploring all appropriate medical options, both locally and internationally, to ensure she receives the best possible care.
“Government is also considering all appropriate medical options both locally and, where necessary, abroad to ensure that she receives the best available care,” he said.
Ms Baafi Boateng has remained bedridden since the incident during the 2025/2026 military enlistment exercise.
