Ghana’s Revenue Authority (GRA) is raking in an extra $3 million daily thanks to the Publican AI system, says Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong.
Speaking on The Point of View, Mr Sarpong explained that the system was boosting revenue by enhancing import declaration accuracy.”
Since launching Publican AI, about 75% of declarations are deemed okay, while 25% require closer scrutiny.
This has led to a $3 million daily revenue boost,” he said.
Mr Sarpong believes this could translate to nearly $1 billion in extra monthly revenue if fully implemented.”
The system was deployed in February 2026, but not from day one. If it had, we’d have seen the full $3 million daily gain,” he noted. Sarpong added that Publican AI has exposed valuation gaps, suggesting previous human-led processes may have shortchanged the government.
He’s optimistic about the system’s potential. The system, introduced to modernize port operations, has sparked intense debate in the shipping and logistics sector. While authorities tout its efficiency and transparency benefits, stakeholders like freight forwarders have resisted its rollout, citing concerns.
The GRA says the system will ultimately improve Ghana’s revenue mobilisation efforts.
