A huge fire has razed a warehouse storing several drums of alcohol at Tema Community 26 in the Greater Accra Region.
The fire started on Sunday, July 12, sending thick clouds of smoke billowing into the air as fire crews rushed in to stop it from spreading to surrounding buildings. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dispatched four fire engines from Tema Industrial Area, Ashaiman, Tema Regional Command and Dodowa to fight the blaze.
As of the time of publishing this story, firefighters are still battling to contain the fire, with crews confronting raging flames inside the facility where huge volumes of alcohol are kept.
Officials believe the stored flammable goods are making the firefighting operation more difficult. The cause of the outbreak has not yet been determined, and there is no report yet of deaths or injuries.
GNFS personnel have also not given details on how much damage the warehouse suffered, or whether nearby buildings were affected. Emergency teams remain on site as they work to fully douse the fire and stop it from extending further. The Ghana National Fire Service says it will begin investigations into what triggered the fire once it has been put out.
